TIFF 2018: Steve McQueen's Chicago Heist Thriller 'Widows' is Intense

Widows Review

The opening photographs of Widows set a precedent for a way intense the movie might be. Intimate photographs of Viola Davis’ character Veronica kissing her husband shortly reduce to gunfire and automotive chase photographs as a gaggle of criminals tries to flee. It is extraordinarily intense, and a slap-in-the-face get up everybody who sits down to observe this excellent movie. Widows is the newest movie made by acclaimed Oscar-profitable filmmaker Steve McQueen (of Starvation, Disgrace, 12 Years a Slave) and it is his first “huge” movie made at a Hollywood studio. Fortunately, McQueen does not appear to be phased, sustaining his edge and focus with out dropping management and being pressured to make one thing a bit extra watered down and accessible. This heist thriller is as a lot about Chicago as it’s concerning the widows of a handful of felony males, who work collectively to tug off a heist to clear their debt. ›››
